According to Twitter PR rep Carolyn Penner, Twitter has started rolling out its new photo feature to a small subset of users outside of employees. Our own@alexia is one of the lucky users to get the service first. The feature was live for employees as of last week, but it is hitting the rest of Twitter users starting this week.

As we reported last week, the new feature allows users to upload photos, which show up in your timeline. The camera feature is located next to “add your location” in the Tweet UI (see screenshot below) and you’ll be able to upload a photo as you Tweet on Twitter.com and eventually via mobile clients.

Twitter is partnering with Photobucket to host these photos but you don’t need a Photobucket account to use it. And photos are only visible on Twitter, and not on Photobucket’s image sharing site. Beneath every photo is a “powered by Photobucket” note. And if you click on a photo in a user’s stream who you are not following, Twitter will show you this message, “This Tweet is from someone you’re not following. The media they’re mentioning could be anything, even something you might find offensive” with an option to display the photo. You can also choose to always display photos from users who you are not following or following. You can also turn off auto-display in Settings as well.

The Call of Duty series has brought a lot of money to Activision and this won’t end soon. The company gained momentum from the previous COD games, but now the story is different as EA and DICE will also release a very good game this fall called Battlefield 3.

Personally, I believe that Battlefield 3 looks better thanModern Warfare 3, but the mutiplayer part in BF games is kinda lame. Hopefully, EA will fix this and the world of gaming will be interesting once again.

Twitter Is Launching Its Own Photosharing Service

Twitter has been completely emphatic about where developers should stake a claim, with Twitter Platform Lead Ryan Sarver warning the ecosystem to stay away from building “client apps that mimic or reproduce the mainstream Twitter consumer client experience.” 

Well if Sarver stays true to his word the Twitpics and Yfrogs of of the world can just it give up now. According to multiple sources, Twitter is on the verge on announcing its own built in Twitpic competitor. Like tomorrow, if things go according to plan (naturally this post might change that).

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone,  as photosharing is the next logical step of Twitter expanding its in app experience. It’s basically grabbing at low hanging fruit.

Twitter is flinging money around; It just spent $40 million on power user client Tweetdeck which represents 13% of its userbase. It’s only natural that they would spend more resources on photosharing, especially considering how much money is being poured into the white hot space and that images were the crux of the success of competitor Facebook.

I’ve got no details on what exactly the photosharing URL shortener will be if any (Twitter has owned Twimg.com for a long time) or what the Twitter for Photos product will look like. Just that it’s coming, soon. And if they’re smart they’ll put ads on it.

‘Comeback King’ Ganguly back in IPL with Pune Warriors India| Sourav Ganguly returns|pune warriors|ganguly back in IPL

KOLKATA: Ignored at this year’s IPL auctions, former India captain Sourav Ganguly made a dramatic return in the cash-rich league on Tuesday signing for Pune Warriors India in place of an injured Ashish Nehra.
“I was approached by them yesterday and I’ve confirmed about my availability to them. I am leaving for Mumbai today and the details will be announced there,” Ganguly told reporters on Tuesday. Ganguly is however unlikely to feature in Pune Warriors’ match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. 

Ganguly, who was captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the first and third season was given a cold shoulder by Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise as well as nine others who didn’t bid for him during the auctions.
The Pune Warriors are in the midst of a disastrous campaign having lost six consecutive matches under Yuvraj Singh’s captaincy. With the batting looking depleted, the new franchise couldn’t have thought for a better replacement as Ganguly brings with him vast experience.
Confirming the development, Pune Warriors team director Abhijit Sarkar said that roping in Ganguly was not a gamble and he would prove his worth with the former India captain being the “best cricketing brain” in the country.
“He is playing in IPL not for money but to prove a point. He deserves a lot of respect, but not the way he has been treated (by Kolkata Knight Riders)… He is the best cricketing brain in the country. Taking Ganguly is not a gamble,” Sarkar explained.
Sarkar said their side was plagued by a lot of injuries and they thought of Ganguly.
“At the start of the tournament, Angelo Mathews, the best all-rounder, was ruled out. Australian T20 vice-captain Tim Paine, South African skipper Graeme Smith too are injured, while Ashish Nehra too was battling with injury. We waited for the Nehra’s fitness report that came yesterday.”
“We have been in talks for last two three days. Our team think-tank felt that Sourav Ganguly is the best possible option available so we went for him. He has been a fighter and a master of comebacks. We are very much confident that he will prove his worth.”
Sarkar however said Ganguly would not be available for their next match against Mumbai Indians at Navi Mumbai on Wednesday.
“We welcome him on board. He is joining the side (in Navi Mumbai) this evening and will train with the coach and support staff. I don’t think that he will be playing in our next match (against Mumbai Indians) tomorrow.”
The May 19 clash between Pune Warriors and KKR will assume greater significance as Ganguly is a certainty for that particular match.
Asked about the tenure of Ganguly’s contract, Sarkar said, “We want to go step by step. Of course, Sourav is a part of Sahara India Pariwar and we will want this association to be a long term one. The contract will be assessed at the end of the year.”
Incidentally, Ganguly has always shared a cordial relationship with Team Pune owner Subrata Roy. Speculations were rife that Warriors will pick him from auctions if KKR doesn’t bid for him.
But one learns that chief coach Geoff Marsh and assistant coach Praveen Amre were against the idea of roping in former India captain due to his strained relationship with Aussie coaches ( Greg Chappell, John Buchanan, Dav Whatmore).
But having failed to deliver the goods with Warriors down in the dumps, they have now no option but to toe the management line.
The move to join Warriors definitely came as a bolt from the blue for the KKR management who have all this while tried to convince Ganguly to join the team as ‘Mentor’.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore tried to put up a brave front when the media sought his reaction on the topic.
“We wish him all the best. We hope that May 19th match against the Warriors will be an interesting one,” Mysore stated.
Incidentally, Ganguly came to watch his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders, take on Kings XI at Eden Gardens in their previous match, though he refrained from joining team boss Shah Rukh Khan at the corporate box.
Reportedly, a member of the KKR support staff even went upto him to request him join the owners in the Corporate box which he politely refused.

If a stranger successfully gets onto your WiFi network, they may be stealing more than bandwidth. After all, they have access to your computers. Your home network should be more secure than the café’s down the street.
The first thing you need to do is make sure that no one can get into that network easily. That means setting up your router to use WPA, or better, WPA-2 security
Because I don’t know what kind of router you have, I can’t tell you exactly how to do that. Check your router’s documentation. Generally you enter a particular IP address into a browser, which will take you to an HTML-based configuration program located inside the router’s firmware.
Setting up security will require you to create a password. Make it a strong password that no one will be able to guess. But remember that you’ll have to enter that password into every computer, smartphone, Blu-ray player, or other WiFi-equipped device in your home, including overnight guests’ laptops. HDTVs and Blu-ray players are the worst for entering passwords – remote controls just aren’t friendly for text entry.
Okay, I’ve told you how to control who gets access, but I didn’t actually answer your question: How do you see if someone is on your network who shouldn’t be?
Once again, you turn towards your router’s configuration program. Somewhere in there, probably in a menu called Wireless or Status, you’ll find a list of all current wireless clients. You won’t be able to identify those clients at a glance, but you will be able to see how many there are. That can tell you if there’s an extra.
But before you count too many and panic, think hard about what devices may be legitimately using your WiFi. When researching this article, my router told me I had five wireless clients. I could only identify four. Turns out my daughter’s iPhone had WiFi turned on.
You can identify the clients you know via their MAC Address, which has nothing to do with Apple Computers (although Macs do have MAC addresses). These numbers are unique for each device that can get onto a network. You can go to each legitimate WiFi client and find its MAC address, although how to do it depends on the device. For instance, on a Windows PC, go to a Command Prompt window, type ipconfig /all, and press ENTER. The MAC address is listed as the “physical address”.
If you’re wondering about past freeloaders, your router’s configuration program should have a log somewhere. It should also have a tool for blocking undesirable MAC addresses.

More advertisers are reaching out to buyers through their mobile phones, with growth in the Asia-Pacific region outpacing the global rate, international mobile ad network InMobi said.
Advertisements on mobile phones reached 17.6 billion “impressions” in March this year, up 26 per cent from just four months earlier, it said in a report. The increase was 21 per cent globally during the same period, it added.
InMobi, which acts as a middleman between advertisers and mobile phone users, said the market was being driven by the phenomenal growth in smartphones, which now account for 22 per cent of all mobile ads in the region. 
Smartphone users usually get interactive advertisements while surfing the web or playing games on their high-tech devices.
This allows users, for example, to view different car models being advertised or even “meet” characters of the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 movie in a click.
“The continued growth of mobile media consumption in Asia highlights the advertising opportunity for local, regional and global brands,” said Atul Satija, InMobi’s regional vice-president and managing director.
“The mobile phone screen is the primary screen for Internet use in Asia, a fact which will drive Asia to innovate in the mobile space potentially ahead of the world’s most advanced media markets.”
James Lamberti, vice president for global research and marketing at InMobi, said the introduction of the Android operating system to compete with Apple’s iPhones “has significantly accelerated smartphone growth”.
“With the increased focus on mobile from global publishers, advertisers and developers, the mobile experience has reached the next phase of its evolution,” said Lamberti.
A joint study by InMobi and the Mobile Marketing Association reported that 80 per cent of Asian mobile web users shop while on the move, buying products including music, movies, games and clothes.

Researchers have set a world record by transferring more than 100 terabits of data per second through a single optical fiber.
So how much data is that, exactly?
Well, 100 terabits is equivalent to 250 double-sided Blu-ray discs or approximately three solid months of HD video.
According to NewScientist, Dayou Qian of NEC managed to achieve a blazing data transmission rate of 101.7 terabits per second via 165 kilometers of fiber.
Qian accomplished this by “squeezing” light pulses from 370 separate lasers into the pulse received by the receiver.
Each laser emitted its own narrow sliver of the infrared spectrum, and each contained several polarities, phases and amplitudes of light waves to code each packet of information.
Meanwhile, Jun Sakaguchi of Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Tokyo also managed to hit the 100-terabit per second benchmark by developing a fiber with seven-light guiding cores.
Each core carried 5.6 terabits per second, yielding a total of 109 terabits per second.
“We introduced a new dimension, spatial multiplication, to increasing transmission capacity,” explained Sakaguchi.
Clearly, transfer speeds of 100 terabits per second are light-years ahead of current capacities. To be sure, transfer speeds between New York and Washington, DC is only a few terabits per second.
Still, Tim Strong, of Telegeography Research in Washington, emphasized that “traffic has been growing about 50 per cent a year for the last few years.”

 As such, network planners are always interested in new ways to significantly expand capacity.
Unfortunately, multi-core fibers are notoriously complicated to manufacture, as is amplifying signals for long-distance transmissions in either of the above-mentioned examples.
Nevertheless, NEC’s Ting Wang believes the first application of 100-terabit transmission will likely occur inside the gargantuan data centers powering Google, Facebook and Amazon.
